To kick off our new website we’re having a contest. We don’t like things to be complicated so we’ve made it simple. Leave a comment telling us your favorite food that is best made from experienced hands, usually with no recipe. If this is too much, just say, “hey”. Don’t forget your e-mail address. (don’t worry, we will only use it to let you know you won) If you want an extra chance to win, follow us on FaceBook and/or Twitter, then leave another comment to let us you know you did. You can enter each day.
The prize is a collection of jellies and sauces from Ramage Farms. We reviewed the restaurant and have goodies from their store. Heaven knows that not many people have time to make jelly or can pickles these days. Myself, we can a few things during the summer as we have time. But it is a family project and not something I do when I am working. Honestly, these things do taste better but often end up costing a pretty penny to make at home. I’m not even factoring in the heinous mess you make when you are peeling peaches and straining the fruit.
I digress. These items are as close to homemade as you can get. They are made around these parts and taste fantastic. You won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
SO leave a note, join us on the interwebs, spread the word.
We will close the contest on October 14, 2009.

My mother’s homemade potato soup is without a doubt one of my favorite dishes to enjoy on a chilly fall or winter day. I have now carried the recipe on, making it often myself. Upon informing friends of my intentions to make a pot, they earerly hurry over for a night of Dixie’s homemade goodness.

Dena,
I love this site and all of these stories! I could enter once a day for weeks and never run out of ideas! I will start with my mom’s potato salad. People come from all over to get some and there is never a tidbit left in the bowl. Her “recipe” is hers alone and resides in her memory. None compares!

I remember my mom’s reply to the often asked question, “How did you make that?” It brings tears to my eyes as I think about her words and the tone in her voice when she softly replied, “Well, you just stir it til it feels right!”

I can’t believe I only just discovered this blog – It’s fantastic and I love it!
My favourite dish? Cottage pie. Everyone I know makes a slightly different version of it, making each one unique. It’s a dish that is made to nourish and nurture those who eat it and so it feels rustic and homely.
Please don’t enter me into the competition, the postage would be too much if I won (unlikely!). I’d love to taste those delicious looking jellies though. Maybe I’ll make it over to Texas one day…

When my grandson, Landon, was about 4, he was at our farm and came down with the flu. He was feverish for days and would not eat a bite. Finally, after 3 or 4 days of not eating, he came to me and said he was hungry and wanted a pizza. Well, our farm is in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains and we are at least 45 minutes from nearest store that would sell a frozen pizza and an hour and a half from a Pizza Hut. So, I decided to scramble and see if I had the ingredients for a pizza. I did. I made the homemade pizza and Landon scarfed it down…his first food in days. He said he ate so much because I had made the pizza with my own hands and had made it like Spongebob Square Pants grandmother…with love in every bite. Landon is now ten and Pizza with Love in Every Bite is his favorite meal here at the farm. He requests it on every visit and has a plan that when he grows up, he and I will open up a restaurant and call it Pizza Heaven where people can come in and get their own slice of Pizza With Love In Every Bite.
Pizza With Love in Every Bite Recipe
2 packages of Walmart Pizza Crust Mix (I have often made my own crust but find this is easy)
1 can tomato sauce
1 tbsp Paul Prudhome Pizza Magic pizza seasoning…or Italian seasoning
Mozzarell Cheese
Toppings of your choice
Lots of Maw Maw Love
Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Mix pizza crust mix as directed. Roll or press out dough on large pizza stone. Spread tomato sauce evenly over crust. Sprinkle Pizza Magic over tomato sauce. Add enough Mozzarella cheese to cover the sauce. (I have found if you put cheese over your toppings, the cheese will slide off in the oven and smoke up the whole joint!) Add toppings. Bake in oven approx 10 – 12 minutes or until cheese slightly brown. Slice pizza into slices. Serve to Grandchildren. Tell them how much you love them.

My favorite dish ever, and I’m getting hungry just thinking about it, is an Northern Italian Dish called gnocchi. It is a potato noodle that you can cover with any kind of sauce. I prefer a butter and parmesan one. My mom made the best.
