Thanksgiving isn’t over til someone has rabies.

Thanksgiving was awesome. Too much food and too little time are always the case. I wish I had taken a picture of my perfect cheesecake. It is the first time I’ve had one that didn’t have a crack.

Our Thanksgiving meals have become pretty relaxed over the years. With people working and moving away, we just have food ready all day and whoever can stop by does when they can. I always try to have some kind of game and even though the kids are now teens, they still love it. This year I used a candy game that I saw at a shower and modified the questions for our family. The answer was the name of a candy bar. Such as, The males in this room have shot how many deer this year? ZERO.

Of course, before Black Friday was over (shopped online) my niece texted me that my dad had been bitten by a wild racoon and didn’t want to go to the hospital. He had been helping a friend who had trapped it and needed help moving the cage. He did go and had the bloody and swollen finger treated with antibiotics and a tetanus shot.

They wanted to give him the shots for rabies but because he had the animal in the cage he talked them out of it. The racoon would be tested and all would be fine if it was negative for rabies. Then he got home only to find that the devil racoon had escaped.

Now he is going to have to start the rabies shots today. While not funny it is typical of the crazy things that we encounter in our family. Today we finish our Christmas decorations, polish off the leftovers from Thursday, and hope that Dad does well with his rabies shots.

  1. Wonderful story. Well, not so wonderful for poor bitten soul but funny that life can be filled with unexpected drama
