Wordless Wednesday

by Dena

These are from one year ago. Soon I will take a new set. I can’t wait to compare the changes. They are certainly there. I don’t really like change but it seems to coming at a rapid fire pace.

IHeartFaces: Book

by Dena

I wondered if I had a picture that I had already taken for the book theme. Then it hit me. Of course I do.

Alexis 035c

This picture was taken when my daughter had a book signing for her story that was published in a Chicken Soup For The Soul book. She wrote about her dog and how helping him become a part of our family helped her heal and make our family stronger after being adopted from foster care. She read her story at a local library meeting, she spoke at a National Adoption Day event, and was even on the morning news segment with the dog. Live.

While it was exciting for her to have had a story published, it was more exciting to me to see the outpouring of love and support from our small town. They invaded Books-A-Million and she sold out of books within minutes. (they donated all profits made during the signing to the Rainbow Room for abused children)  People supported her in everything she did.

I am so proud of her. I look back at these pictures to choose one for this and I am one again blown away by the people in our lives. Her story touched many and the people here touched me.

IHeartFaces: Props

by Dena

I am going to try to get back into the swing of things around here. No better way than an IHeartFaces challenge.

I’m not crazy about props but one that I’ve always loved is a couch. I looked for a long time and then Rod found this one. Bonus: It was pretty much free and is in perfect shape.

We did these pictures in December and I’ve not had a chance to do more. I have a few more families who want some on these and when the weather cools down here, I’m all over it!

Check out the other props in IHeartFaces. You may get some great ideas yourself.

Best of March

by Dena

Today is really no less busy than the last few months but I am determined to get back in the swing of things around here. The theme at IHeartFaces is the Best of March and I couldn’t let it pass without entering this picture.

Boo

This is one of my favorite of Boo and I took it just a few weeks ago.

Boo thought I forgotten about this place, but the truth is a few things have had me (and Joy) pretty swamped.

  1. Mom has been in the hospital
  2. My cat had major reconstructive surgery on his broken leg and his recovery was intense.
  3. So intense that he bit my husband and he soon developed  a raging infection and was almost hospitalized.
  4. Boo has been busy in things and I’ve had a crash course in Southern beauty pageants.
  5. JOY’s WEDDING!

So, we are back and ready to share the month of wedding planning and all we have neglected. For now, check out the other entries at IHeartFaces. If you feel so inclined, you can vote for this picture!

I Heart Faces: Fall

by Dena

This week at I Heart Faces is all about Fall. The challenge is to share a picture and tell a story. I know that for me, I will always remember how our life changed forever in the fall. In fact, four years ago today, we brought our daughter home to live forever. She was eight years old when she came home and  has taken us so many places in the last four years.

The picture below is her handing out candy dressed as a hunting princess. It is the perfect description of her. This is how she passed out candy, of course, with her dog, Lucky.

Boo

A few things about Boo. She:

  • is a straight A student
  • plays volleyball and basketball
  • plays the clarinet and taught herself to play the organ at church
  • wrote a story about her dog that was published in Chicken Soup For The Soul
  • was on the live local news with her dog
  • read her story at an adoption day celebration
  • she is very kind to the elderly and young kids
  • sings at church
  • killed her first deer (we live in Texas)
  • loves to fish
  • won a beauty pageant
  • is a majorette
  • wants to be a vet and has watched the local vet do surgery

This is Boo.  She packs so much into her young life and we are so proud of her. We can’t remember when she wasn’t here, and I know that sounds crazy. But it’s true.  Fall and change makes me think of her, because I remember her coming home and all the things listed above that have taken place in the fall.
